    Sewage & Water Board to temporarily shut off water line on Alvar St. between Dorgenois St. and Florida Ave.

    The Sewage & Water Board of New Orleans will shut off the water line along Alvar St. between Dorgenois St. and Florida Ave. on Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while new water line tie-ins are installed. This work is related to the construction of a new drainage canal as part of the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control project.

    General De Gaulle Dr. westbound to close periodically between Behrman Pl. and MacArthur Blvd.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District will temporarily close the left lane of General De Gaulle Drive westbound to traffic between Behrman Place and MacArthur Boulevard for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control project. Starting Wednesday, April 1, 2020, the left lane will be closed periodically between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. when the work site is receiving construction equipment.

    KROTZ SPRINGS, La. – The 16th Annual STEP OUTSIDE Day, which was scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area in the Atchafalaya Basin has been cancelled in response to the novel coronavirus.

    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mississippi River Commission (MRC) has canceled its annual high-water inspection trip and public hearings on board the MV Mississippi, which was scheduled for March 29 – April 3, 2020.

    Corps Deactivates Phase II Flood Fight

    Phase I restrictions remain in effect. Water levels along the Mississippi River have dropped prompting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District to move from phase II to phase I flood fight procedures.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will host a public meeting to present updates to the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project. The project will provide 100 year level risk reduction to the area extending from Bonnet Carrė spillway to Garyville.

    Corps Begins Next Phase of Inspections along the Mississippi River

    The Mississippi River has risen to 15 feet at the Carrollton Gage prompting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District to reactivate phase II flood fight procedures. Closely coordinating efforts with the local levee authorities, the New Orleans District will begin daily patrolling of levees along the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to Venice. Increased patrols help ensure our ability to respond quickly to any problem areas that may develop along the levee system because of the elevated water levels.
