    West Shore Lake Pontchartrain public meeting to be postponed As a measure of prudent planning for COVID-19

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will postpone the April 2nd public meeting in St. John the Baptist Parish with regard to the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract to restore green infrastructure previously removed for the construction of SELA underground drainage improvements on South Claiborne Avenue.

    Corps to host public meeting to present project updates for West Shore Lake Pontchartrain

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will host a public meeting to present updates to the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project. The project will provide 100 year level risk reduction to the area extending from Bonnet Carrė spillway to Garyville.

    Corps Begins Next Phase of Inspections along the Mississippi River

    The Mississippi River has risen to 15 feet at the Carrollton Gage prompting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District to reactivate phase II flood fight procedures. Closely coordinating efforts with the local levee authorities, the New Orleans District will begin daily patrolling of levees along the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to Venice. Increased patrols help ensure our ability to respond quickly to any problem areas that may develop along the levee system because of the elevated water levels.

    Corps deactivates phase II flood fight

    Water levels along the Mississippi River have dropped prompting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District to move from phase II to phase I flood fight procedures. This flood fight began Jan. 9 when the Mississippi River rose above 11 feet at the Carrollton Gage, and on Jan. 27 phase II was initiated when the river exceeded 15 feet at the gage. Current forecasts show the river remaining above 11 feet at the Carrollton Gage throughout the next 28 days. However, the Corps will continue to monitor the river and forecasts closely and take appropriate measures if necessary.
