Street Closure Announcement: Destrehan Avenue in Harvey will be closed for up to 30 days due to construction on Harvey Floodwall

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin construction on a floodwall in Harvey, La. Construction will close Destrehan Avenue beginning on December 16, 2024 for up to 30 days.

Army Corps, Port of New Orleans Announce Completion of Deepening Facilities Access Channel

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the non-Federal sponsor, the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA), announced the completion of deepening the access channel adjacent to Port NOLA facilities. This project was provided $5.82M for construction in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Canal closure for floodwall and levee crossing for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will permanently restrict travel down the full length of the canal at contract 106 to any marine traffic starting on October 21, 2024, as part of the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project. The projects levee and floodwall alignment will prevent traffic from traversing the canal located between east and west bound lanes of I-10 near mile marker 203 in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Federal, state, and local officials break ground on Southwest Louisiana Coastal Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority held a Groundbreaking Ceremony to celebrate the start of the Southwest Coastal Louisiana Project. This project will deliver a non-structural approach to providing a 1-percent level of hurricane and storm damage risk reduction, primarily through a combination of elevating or floodproofing approximately 4,000 homes and businesses and undertaking much-needed coastal ecosystem restoration in the southwest portion of the state.

  • Port Allen Lock reopens after USACE completes repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, reopened the Port Allen Lock again for waterborne traffic after closing it for emergency repairs earlier this year. Ships, barges and other traffic began passing through the lock again the morning of April 27, 2024.
  • New Orleans Corps of Engineers christens new survey vessel named in honor of former employee.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, has a new hydrographic survey boat among its fleet of vessels that sails the waters of South Louisiana. The Motor Vessel (M/V) Ducarpe was christened during a ceremony held at the Seabrook Harbor & Marine March 7, 2024.
  • New Orleans District deputy commander promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has a new lieutenant colonel among its ranks. Former Maj. Nathaniel Weander, deputy commander of the USACE New Orleans District, pinned on the rank of lieutenant colonel during a promotion ceremony held Jan. 22, 2024, at the district headquarters in New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Corps of Engineers works with federal, state agencies to help create new marsh land in Louisiana

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) New Orleans District has been pumping sediment out of the Calcasieu Ship Channel to help create new marsh lands as part of the Louisiana Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority (CPRA) Long Point Bayou Marsh Creation Project near Hackberry, La.
  • Corps of Engineers holds Industry Day for Morganza to the Gulf project

    New Orleans District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) team members working on the Morganza to the Gulf project hosted their first Industry Day for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) East and West Floodgates at USACE New Orleans District headquarter Oct. 13, 2023.
  • West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Summer 2023 Construction Update

    Join the Army Corps of Engineers for a summer construction update on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain - New Orleans, USACE Storm Damage Risk Reduction System as of 2023. This critical flood risk management infrastructure will provide much needed risk reduction for 60,000 residents in St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, and St. James parishes. The Project will construct a 100-year level risk reduction system extending from the Bonnet Carre spillway to Garyville. The structural component of the project is a 18.5 mile levee system that includes earthen levees, floodwalls and pumps

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, held a press conference Sept. 15, 2023, at their headquarters in New Orleans, La., to discuss planned efforts to address continued low-water conditions on the Mississippi River.
  • Houma Navigation Canal Partnering Agreement Signing Ceremony

    Speakers included Brig. Gen. Kimberly Peeples, commanding general, Mississippi Valley Division (US Army Corps of Engineers), Col. Cullen Jones, commander, New Orleans District, along with other federal, state, and local partners.
  • New Orleans District Corps personnel honored for innovation at annual 2022 LEAP award ceremony

    At an award ceremony held Sept. 6, 2023, team members from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District (MVN), were recognized during the 2022 Lean Six Sigma Excellence Awards Program (LEAP) for their innovation in helping to improve the DPMAP process throughout the New Orleans District and Mississippi Valley Division of the Corps of Engineers.
  • New Orleans Corps of Engineers holds public meetings for St. Tammany Parish flood study

    Personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, held two public meetings Aug. 15 and 16, 2023, first in Slidell and then in Covington, Louisiana, to solicit feedback on the tentatively selected plan (TSP) for the St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana Feasibility Study.
