    On August 11, 2026, General De Gaulle Drive between Florence Avenue and Indiana Street will be reduced to one-lane traffic to accommodate roadway restoration work by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Motorists and residents are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow additional travel time while construction is underway.

  • USACE, SWBNO and DPW to Host Open House on SELA Construction Activities in Desire Neighborhood

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans and the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works will host an open house regarding upcoming construction activities in the Desire neighborhood as part of the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA 26.1a).

  • UPDATE: Temporary Closure of General De Gaulle to Support Ongoing SELA Drainage Improvements

    As part of the federally funded Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA), the two right eastbound lanes of General De Gaulle Drive between Florence Avenue and Indiana Street in New Orleans will be temporarily closed to traffic starting Friday, August 7, at 7:00 p.m. through Saturday, August 8, 2026, to accommodate ongoing drainage improvement construction. Following completion of that work, the two left eastbound lanes of General De Gaulle Drive between Georgia Street and Indiana Street will also be temporarily closed from Saturday, August 8, through no later than 6:00 a.m. Monday, August 10.

  • Temporary Closure of General De Gaulle to Support Ongoing SELA Drainage Improvements

    As part of the federally funded Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA), the two right eastbound lanes of General De Gaulle Drive between Georgia Street and Indiana Street in New Orleans will be temporarily closed to traffic Friday, July 31, through Monday, August 3, 2026, to accommodate ongoing drainage improvement construction. Following completion of that work, the two left eastbound lanes of General De Gaulle Drive between Georgia Street and Indiana Street will also be temporarily closed within the same weekend time frame to allow construction activities to continue.

  • Contract Awarded for Levee, Floodwall and Gate on West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for the construction of a levee, floodwall, and gate, as part of the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. WSLP contract 103a will build a flood wall and levee and will be approximately 0.15 miles of the 18.5-mile levee system, which will provide 100-year level storm risk reduction for areas in St. John the Baptist, St. James, and St. Charles Parishes.

  • IHNC Lock replacement public review period extended

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, has extended the public review period ending on Aug. 10, 2026, to now end on Aug. 25, 2026, for the Final General Reevaluation Report and Integrated Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Lock Replacement Project.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, released the Final General Reevaluation Report and Integrated Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Lock Replacement Project for a 30-day public review from July 10, 2026, through August 10, 2026.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to Temporarily Close Reserve Relief Canal Boat Launch and Canal for West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Construction

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will temporarily close the Reserve Relief Canal Boat Launch and restrict travel down the full length of the Reserve Relief Canal starting July 15, 2026. These closures and travel restrictions are projected to remain in place until project completion in June 2030.

    In a display of intergovernmental unity, the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA), the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have agreed to a joint commitment to overhaul bureaucratic processes and accelerate coastal resilience efforts.
