New Orleans -- Join the Army Corps of Engineers for a summer construction update on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain - New Orleans, USACE Storm Damage Risk Reduction System as of 2023. This critical flood risk management infrastructure will provide much needed risk reduction for 60,000 residents in St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, and St. James parishes. The Project will construct a 100-year level risk reduction system extending from the Bonnet Carre spillway to Garyville. The structural component of the project is a 18.5 mile levee system that includes earthen levees, floodwalls and pumps.
