    Contract awarded for levee work for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for constructing the fourth levee reach on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. This contract will construct approximately 1.5 miles of the 17.5-mile-long levee system that will provide 100-year level risk reduction to the area primarily in St. John the Baptist, St. James and St. Charles Parish.

    Contract awarded for post-Ida repairs to the Grand Isle and Vicinity project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, has awarded its third and final construction contract for post-Ida repairs to the Grand Isle and Vicinity project. The work includes installation of 20,000LF of clay filled geotextile dune core, repairs to the existing sand-filled geo-tube core, and dredged placement of sand to restore the dune and beach in Grand Isle.

    Mississippi River Commission cancels the remainder of the 409th session of the low-water inspection trip

    Brig. Gen. Kimberly Peeples has canceled the remainder of the MRC’s low water inspection trip and public hearings, effective immediately. This decision is in the best public health interests of the crew and our partners.

    Morganza to the Gulf Environmental Justice Outreach Meeting

    The Environmental Justice Outreach Team for the Morganza to the Gulf of Mexico Project held an Environmental Justice Outreach Meeting on Wednesday, July 19th at the Terrebonne Folklife Museum in Houma, LA. This Environmental Justice Outreach effort was led by RPEDS Environmental Justice Specialists Andrew Perez and Quanita Kendrick, with some presentation by District Tribal Liaison Brian Ostahowski.

    South Farm to host Wood Stork & Wading Bird Event Saturday, July 29, 2023

    A Wood Stork & Wading Bird Event will be held on Saturday, July 29th at the South Farm of the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area Complex. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries would like to invite everyone to view this spectacle. Wood Storks and other wading and shore birds can be viewed in this area as they are drawn to feed in the South Farm’s water management units.

    USACE begins construction of Mississippi River saltwater barrier

    On July 11, 2023, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District began construction of an underwater sill across the bed of the Mississippi River channel to prevent further upriver progression of salt water from the Gulf of Mexico.

    USACE to remove temporary pumps at the London Avenue Outfall Canal

    NEW ORLEANS – With all 17 permanent pumps inspected and restored, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will remove the contingency pumps installed on the Pratt Drive side of the London Avenue Outfall Canal in New Orleans, La. The process to carefully remove the pumps and all associated piping will begin Monday, July 10, and take approximately one month to complete.
