    UPDATE - Street Opening Announcement: Destrehan Avenue in Harvey to be open to traffic starting Thursday, August 28, 2025

    USACE held a final inspection for the Mississippi River Levees (MRL) Harvey Lock Forebay Floodwall Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025. Since construction is completed, Destrehan Avenue in Harvey, La., will be open to traffic starting Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025.

    Road Closure Announcement: Top levee road for West Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee in the Indian Bayou Area closed for levee repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, began repairing a levee slide on the West Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee, Aug. 13, 2025, in the Indian Bayou Area north of the Butte and La Rose, La., exit off I-10 Basin Bridge. As such, starting Aug. 13, only local traffic will be allowed to use the top levee road while all other traffic is advised to find an alternate route for traveling in this area.

    Mississippi River Commission to host 2025 Low Water Inspection trip as USACE marks 250 years of service

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual Low Water Inspection Trip Aug. 15–22, 2025, as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers observe its 250th anniversary year, commerating a legacy of service to the nation.

    South Farm to host Wood Stork & Wading Bird Event Saturday, August 2, 2025

    A Wood Stork & Wading Bird Event will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at the South Farm of the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area Complex.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries would like to invite everyone to view this spectacle.  Wood storks and other wading and shore birds can be viewed in this area as they are drawn to feed in the South Farm’s water management units.

    USACE seeks public comments on new NEPA implementing procedures for the Corps Regulatory Program and Section 408 Program

    The Department of the Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced we are seeking comments on an interim final rule that establishes new National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) implementing regulations at Title 33 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 333 for the USACE Regulatory Program and the USACE Section 408 Program. The interim final rule became effective on July 3, 2025 for Regulatory Program permit applications and Section 408 permission requests submitted to the USACE on or after July 3, 2025. The new USACE NEPA implementing procedures at 33 CFR 333 replace the Corps Regulatory Program’s previous NEPA implementing procedures at 33 CFR 325, appendix B.

    IHNC Lock replacement public review, comment periods extended

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, has extended the public review and comment period from ending on July 17, 2025, to now end on Sept 2, 2025, for the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lock Replacement Draft General Reevaluation Report and integrated Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement.

    UPDATE - Street Closure Announcement: Destrehan Avenue in Harvey to remain closed until August 2025 due to the continued high Mississippi River

    Due to the extended high Mississippi River, Destrehan Avenue in Harvey, La., will remain closed to traffic until the end of August 2025 while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues construction of the floodwall it began building in December 2024. The public will be able to take 4th Street to Barataria Boulevard to reach River Road.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on proposal to renew and revise nationwide permits

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today it is seeking comments on its proposal to renew and revise 56 existing nationwide permits and issue one new nationwide permit authorizing activities associated with improving fish passage. Nationwide permits authorize activities in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899.
