Pumpstation fronting protection construction to begin this month

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, is hosting a public meeting to discuss upcoming construction along the Jefferson Parish Lakefront. Corps representatives will address construction projects in the area and their anticipated schedules, as well as project specific information, such as planned access routes and staging areas. Residents are encouraged to attend to learn what they can expect to see in their neighborhood as the Corps continues to build the Greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System.

Construction along the Jefferson Lakefront includes levee enlargements, floodgate replacement, new breakwaters, and new concrete T-walls in front of the Duncan, Elmwood, Suburban and Bonnabel Pump Stations. Construction of new breakwaters at the Duncan and Bonnabel pump stations are now complete and fronting protection construction at the Suburban and Elmwood pump stations begins this month. These projects are part of the perimeter system being built around the New Orleans metropolitan area that will defend against the risk of surge from a storm that has a 1 percent chance of occurring in any given year.
