Expiration date: 12/22/2014

NAME OF APPLICANT:  Republic Services, Inc. (formerly BFI Waste Services), c/o C-K Associates, Attn: Mr. Brian Newman, 17170 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810.

LOCATION OF WORK:  Located on an approximate 20-acre parcel, adjacent to an existing approximate 140-acre landfill site, in Section 42, Township10 South, Range 3 East, at 5328 LA Highway 70, near Sorrento, Louisiana, in ASCENSION Parish, as shown on the enclosed drawings (Latitude 30.1411917 N  Longitude -90.8570389 W).  This project is located in USGS Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) 08070204- Lake Maurepas HUC.

CHARACTER OF WORK:  Clear, grade, excavate, place and maintain fill material for the relocation of a stormwater pond and its associated perimeter berm, laydown area, and appropriate access road.  The applicant is proposing to clear and grub an approximate 20-acre parcel adjacent to the southwestern corner of an existing landfill.    The proposed 7.9-acre stormwater pond will be excavated to a depth of approximately 24 feet.  The proposed laydown area and perimeter berm will encompass approximately 5.3 acres and 6.8 acres, respectively.  The project purpose is to expand the existing landfill facility into the current stormwater pond cell area and to relocate and construct a new stormwater pond with appurtenances.  The project purpose is to create additional landfill airspace and increase the operational life of the landfill for approximately an additional 15 years.  Approximately 7,600 cubic yards of clean earthen fill material would be placed in jurisdictional areas for the construction of the access roads and perimeter berm and 202,284 cubic yards of earthen material would be excavated for the new stormwater pond construction.  This excavated material will be placed in the laydown yard area and allowed to dry.  The dried material would be utilized for landfill operations such as capping the cells.  Approximately 20 acres of jurisdictional forested wetlands would be permanently impacted as a result of project implementation.  The applicant has claimed that the project has been designed to avoid and minimize impacts as much as possible.  The applicant is proposing to compensate for the unavoidable impact by purchasing mitigation credits from an approved mitigation bank.
