How to send comments. Comments can be mailed to the address appearing in the Public Notice or emailed to the Project Manager identified on the Public Notice. Comments made in reference to a Public Notice should include your name, address, and phone number as well as the permit application number identified on the Public Notice.

Individuals or parties may request an extension of time in which to comment on the proposed work by writing to the project manager or clicking on the project manager’s name on the public notice grid on the web page. Any request must be specific and substantively supportive of the requested extension, and received by this office prior to the end of the initial comment period. The Branch Chief will review the request and the requestor will be promptly notified of the decision to grant or deny the request. If granted, the time extension will be continuous to the initial comment period and, inclusive of the initial comment period, will not exceed a total of 30 calendar days.

NAME OF APPLICANT: Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Post Office Box 94245, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70804-9245.

LOCATION OF WORK: The project is located along LA 70 near its intersection with the Sunshine Bridge to its intersection with LA 22, in Section 1, Township 11 South, Range 3 East, and Section 1, Township 10 South, Range 3 East in Ascension and St. James Parishes, south of Sorrento, Louisiana, as shown on the enclosed drawings (Latitude 30.1014° N, Longitude 90.8921° W). This project is located in the Lake Pontchartrain watershed basin within the Lake Maurepas USGS Catalog Unit 08070204.

CHARACTER OF WORK: The applicant has requested Department of the Army authorization to clear, grade, excavate and deposit fill and/or aggregate material associated with the widening of a two-lane highway to a four-lane divided highway. The proposed project would impact approximately 13.9 acres of jurisdictional wetlands. The applicant has claimed that the project has been designed to avoid and minimize impacts as much as possible. Approximately 307,438 cubic yards of fill material would be hauled in and deposited in jurisdictional wetlands to achieve required grade elevation. As compensation for unavoidable wetland impacts, the applicant proposes to use a Corps approved mitigation bank within the watershed of impact.
