    The All Weather Access Road (AWAR) will be closed to the public beginning April 2, 2024, and will remain closed for the duration of construction. Construction is expected to be complete in late 2025.

  • Contract awarded for levee work for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for constructing the third levee reach on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. This contract will construct approximately 1.8 miles of the 17.5-mile-long levee system that will provide 100-year level risk reduction to the area primarily in St. John the Baptist, St. James and St. Charles Parish.
  • Contract awarded for levee work for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for constructing the first levee reach on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. This contract will construct approximately one mile of the 17.5-mile-long levee system that will provide 100-year level risk reduction to the area extending from the Bonnet Carre’ spillway to Garyville.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is requesting public comments for preparations of the Humble Canal Gate Site and initial levee preload in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. The public comment period begins on Sept. 21 and concludes on Oct. 6, 2022.

The $8.9M construction contract was awarded to APC Construction, LLC of Algiers, La. Construction is expected to begin in late September and be completed by March 2022.

  • HSDRRS levee lift Draft General Re-evaluation Reports available for review

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released its Draft General Re-evaluation Reports for the Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity (LPV) and West Bank and Vicinity (WBV), which comprise the post-Katrina risk reduction system. The Notice of Availability will be published in the Federal Register Friday, beginning a 55-day public review and comment period. The purpose of the two General Re-Evaluation Reports is to evaluate whether federal participation to carry out measures that address consolidation, settlement, subsidence, sea level rise, and new datum that would sustain the Hurricane and Storm Damage and Risk Reduction System are economically justified, technically feasible and environmentally acceptable.
