  • West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Supplemental Environmental Assessment draft released

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, have released a draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA 571) and a draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction system in St. Charles and St. John the Baptist Parishes. The drafts will be available for public review and comment from June 2, 2023 until July 3, 2023.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for constructing the third levee reach on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. This contract will construct approximately 1.8 miles of the 17.5-mile-long levee system that will provide 100-year level risk reduction to the area primarily in St. John the Baptist, St. James and St. Charles Parish.

This contract will construct approximately 1.7 miles of the 17.5-mile-long levee system that will provide 100-year level risk reduction to the area extending from the Bonnet Carre’ spillway to Garyville.
  • Record of Decision signed for West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Mitigation Alternative

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, announced today that a Record of Decision was signed by Maj. Gen. Diana Holland, Mississippi Valley Division Commanding General, on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) mitigation feature. The Record of Decision found that the Maurepas Diversion meets the swamp mitigation need for the WSLP Project.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District re-released the “Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement to West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Risk Reduction Study, Draft Mitigation Plan Update” for public review and comment.
