Work is part of the Harahan Pump to the River and SELA
The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will close part of Powerline Drive, near River Road Wednesday, March 5th, in order to construct an 84" discharge pipe.
This work is part of the ongoing Harahan Pump to the River project and is expected to last 6 months.
Drivers will be able to access Powerline Drive from Jefferson Highway.
The next phase of construction, scheduled for early summer, will close River Road at the intersection of Powerline Drive for 60 days. More information, to include detours, will be provided in a future news release.
The Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Damage Reduction Project (SELA) reduces the risk of flood damages due to rainfall flooding in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes. The improvements generally support the parishes’ master drainage plans and provide flood risk reduction up to a level associated with a 10-year rainfall event. A 10-year event is basically a rain storm that has a 10% annual probability of occurrence and equates to approximately 9 inches of rain over a 24-hour period for our area.
The Corps continues to work closely with our partners at the state and in Jefferson Parish Government. If at any time there are questions about construction, call the Corps’ toll free Construction Hotline at 877-427-0345.
