Temporary bypass channel being implemented in Plaquemines Parish

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, and its contractors are implementing a temporary bypass channel in Empire, Louisiana. The current waterway will be closed to boat traffic for the construction of the new Empire Floodgate. This project is a part of the New Orleans to Venice (NOV), Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS).

 
On Tuesday, January 13, 2015, a temporary bypass channel in the Doullet Canal will open while the new Empire Floodgate is being constructed. Boat traffic will need to use this canal for the duration on the floodgate construction, which will last until fall 2017. The temporary channel will be marked with temporary buoys.
