NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Spillway Radio Control Club will be honoring veterans with a model airplane show at the Bonnet Carré Spillway on March 24, 2012.

Veterans from the VA’s Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Home in Reserve, La., will be escorted to the event; however, all veterans and their family and friends are encouraged to attend.

The event, which will occur from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will include a model airplane show featuring aircrafts from a variety of eras. New Orleans District Executive Officer Maj. Luis Gonzalez and St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre Jr. will provide opening remarks.

Lunch will be provided by Jacob’s World Famous Andouille & Sausage of LaPlace, La., for the first 200 veterans. Family and friends are encouraged to bring their own lunch; however they are welcome to eat the provided lunch if there is extra.

The tribute will take place at the Bonnet Carre Spillway’s Bleakley Field. If coming from New Orleans, take Interstate 10 West and merge onto Interstate 310. Once on I-310, take the Norco exit (exit 2) to US-61 and continue west. Turn left at the third light, Apple Street. Take Apple Street until it ends at River Road and make a right. Follow this road approximately three miles, past the Spillway office. Driving along the locks, Bleakley Field will be across from the Spillway structure, approximately three quarters of a mile past the Spillway office.
