MVN-2019-00038-CE

Published Jan. 14, 2019
Expiration date: 2/2/2019

NAME OF APPLICANT:  Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, c/o GIS Engineering, LLC., 450 Laurel Street, Suite 1500, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70801.

LOCATION OF WORK:  In Bayou Terrebonne (Latitude: 29.389161, Longitude: -90.587847) near Montegut, Louisiana, in Terrebonne Parish, within the West Central Louisiana Coastal basin in hydrological unit (HUC 08090302), as shown on the attached drawings.

CHARACTER OF WORK: The applicant has requested a Department of the Army authorization to construct and maintain a floodgate adjacent to an existing floodgate.  The construction of the new floodgate will create a lock system to provide continuous access to marine vessels passing through the area when the downstream floodgate is closed.  The proposed project will involve the excavation of 7,200 cubic yards of material.  A coffer dam will be placed around the miter gate in the center of the channel but navigation will be maintained while the gate is being constructed.  It is anticipated that the proposed action will impact approximately 0.8 acres of waterbottoms and 0.12 acres of wetlands.

The applicant has stated that the project has been designed to avoid and minimize direct and secondary adverse impacts to the maximum extent practicable.  As compensation for the unavoidable wetland impacts, the applicant proposes to mitigate in-kind wetland credits from a Corps approved mitigation bank located in the watershed.
