Lane shifts to occur on St. Charles Ave. while drainage construction takes place

Work requires temporary stoppage of streetcar service between Jefferson and Louisiana avenues

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, and its contractors will temporarily shift travel lanes on St. Charles Avenue for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Drainage Project (SELA).

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, June 1, the Corps and its contractors will construct underground box culverts at the intersections of Louisiana, Napoleon and Jefferson avenues on St. Charles Ave. During the three-month construction effort, one travel lane in each direction will be shifted on St. Charles Ave. and Louisiana and Napoleon avenues to accommodate construction. The northbound lane on Jefferson Ave. at St. Charles Ave. will be intermittently closed and shifted to accommodate construction.

This work also requires that the St. Charles streetcar tracks at Jefferson, Napoleon and Louisiana avenues be removed causing the interruption of service along this reach of the route for the duration of the work. The Regional Transit Authority will provide bus service to bridge between Jefferson and Louisiana avenues. For more information, riders can contact RTA at (504)248-3900 or visit www.norta.com.

Throughout construction, The Corps will continue to work closely with its partners at the City of New Orleans.
