STEP OUTSIDE® Day slated for Saturday, May 9

KROTZ SPRINGS – The 11th Annual STEP OUTSIDE Day will take place Saturday, May 9th from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area in the Atchafalaya Basin. This locally sponsored event is co hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. STEP OUTSIDE Day is free and provides adults and children with an opportunity to engage in safe, hands-on outdoor activities.

STEP OUTSIDE is a national program administered by the National Shooting Sports Foundation to increase participation in outdoor sports. Last year approximately 500 registrants participated in the event. This year’s event will include fishing, archery, boating, target and trap shooting, blue bird box building, canoeing, live wildlife, dog training, raptors and owl pellet dissection.

Also featured will be exhibits on water safety, Louisiana black bears, trapping techniques, and turkey and duck calling. There will also be prize drawings.

No alcoholic beverages or glass containers will be allowed on the premises. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Due to the nature of activities, liability waiver forms must be completed.

To obtain registration forms or get detailed driving directions to the Sherburne Headquarters, call the Corps, Atchafalaya Basin Floodway System Project Office at (337)585-0853.
