Southeast Louisiana Drainage Project (SELA)

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, and its contractors will temporarily shift travel lanes at two intersections on Jefferson Ave. for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Drainage Project (SELA). Throughout construction, public safety is the Corps’ top priority.

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, April 6, 2015, a traffic shift will be implemented on Magazine St. at Jefferson Ave. Phased traffic signals will be installed on Magazine St. that will alternate eastbound (downtown bound) and westbound (uptown bound) traffic through the intersection.

Traffic on Magazine St. will initially be shifted to the north side while work is performed on the south side of the intersection. After that work is complete, traffic will be shifted to the south side of Magazine St. while work is being performed on the north side. Parking lanes on Magazine St. will be utilized for travel lanes during the traffic shift. Traffic will be able to travel northbound (lakebound) on Jefferson Ave. during this traffic shift.

Work is for installation of the steel sheet pile for the drainage box culvert and installation of a new water main. The lane shift will be in place for approximately 30 days.

Weather permitting, beginning Monday April 6, 2015 the northbound (lakebound) side of Jefferson Ave. will be closed at Freret St. Traffic traveling eastbound (downtown bound) and westbound (uptown bound) on Freret St. will not be able to cross Jefferson Ave.

Traffic traveling eastbound on Freret St. will be able to turn north and south on Jefferson Ave. and westbound traffic will be detoured at Valmont St.
Work is for installation of a sewer main and water main. The lane shift will be in place for approximately 30 days.

Throughout construction, The Corps will continue to work closely with its partners at the City of New Orleans.
