NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District will host an Industry Day to provide an overview of the upcoming armoring projects for the Greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS). The agency is seeking industry information from producers on the availability of approximately 4.5 million square yards of sod (Tifway 419 / Celebration).
"Public safety is the Corps’ top priority, and armoring will increase resiliency of the levee system against severe wave overtopping," said Senior Project Manager Soheila Holley. She added: "successful implementation requires involvement from producers."
The armoring program will consist of multiple contracts with an estimated $300 million total project cost for armoring of approximately 80 miles of levees; construction is anticipated to begin in early 2015.
The event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the New Orleans District Headquarters, 7400 Leake Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70118. Those unable to attend can use the following dial in information: USA Toll-Free: (888) 675-2535 l Access Code: 9035935 l Security Code: 1234.
