NEW ORLEANS, LA – As part of the Federal Executive Board’s Public Service Recognition Week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District today participated in the Interagency Mall Exhibition Program at the Lakeside Mall in Metairie. Attendees received information about the Corps’ missions throughout south Louisiana and, in particular, had a chance to learn about the agencies’ efforts to reduce risk with the Greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System.
Approximately 20 federal agencies staffed booths during this day-long event and expressed gratitude about the opportunity to speak with several thousand people about their respective missions and how they positively impact the general public.
"Working the booth was a great experience," said John Templeton, an emerging leader and project manager with the Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District. "It was a great opportunity to engage with the public in a one on one environment and to be able to talk about the work we do. They wanted to know about the Hurricane Storm Damage and Risk Reduction System, as well as what we were doing to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. I was very proud to represent the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at this worthwhile event."
According to members of the FEB, the Public Service Recognition Week provides the Federal government with an opportunity to focus the community's attention on the dedication and allegiance of public servants who serve the country and their communities. Some of the participating Federal agencies used this opportunity to inform the public about their mission, new programs or initiatives and/or demonstrate their value to the public. Others used it as a recruitment opportunity, or to introduce new or existing services.
