Section of Jefferson Avenue to close temporarily for SELA Uptown work

Published May 1, 2014

NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District and its contractors will temporarily close part of Jefferson Avenue for drainage culvert installation. Work is for the Southeast Louisiana Drainage Project (SELA).

Beginning Monday, May 5, 2014, the riverbound lane of Jefferson Avenue, between Atlanta Street and Prytania Street will be closed for approximately 14 months.

This will make Jefferson Avenue one-way, lakebound only, from Prytania Street to Danneel Street. Riverbound traffic can use Nashville Street as an alternate route.

Throughout construction, the Corps will work closely with its partners at the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans and the City of New Orleans. All SELA work in Orleans Parish is scheduled to be complete in 2018.
