NEW ORLEANS – Southern winds have pushed water into the Company Canal, prompting the Southeast Levee Flood Protection Authority - West to request New Orleans District assistance in closing the Company gate.
The gate takes approximately one hour to close and, once closed, we can begin pumping water around the gate, should the need arise, to maintain a safe water elevation of 3 feet in the canal.
The Corps of Engineers is working closely with SLFPA-W to increase public safety to local homes and businesses.
We are closely monitoring water level in the Harvey Canal and will close the gates if it reaches the operational trigger of 2 feet and rising.
