New Orleans District Awards 3 more ARRA contracts

NEW ORLEANS – The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is funding Corps work as part of the Atchafalaya Basin Maintenance and Mermentau River Maintenance projects.

A $956,800 contract was awarded to Merrick Construction Co. of Belle Chasse, La. as part of the Atchafalaya Basin Maintenance Project. ARRA funds will be used to repair the Point Coupee pump station and the project is scheduled for completion in February 2010.

A $1,138,103 contract was also awarded for the Atchafalaya Basin Maintenance Project to Hardware, Inc. of Gretna, La. ARRA funds will be used to replace the navigation guidewalls at the Corps’ Bayou Boeuf and Bayou Sorrel locks. The projects are scheduled for completion late December 2009.

A $4,523,738 contract was awarded to Reeves Electrical Services, LLC. Of Plattenville, La. as part of the Mermentau River Project. ARRA funds will be used to replace the north and south guidewalls at the Catfish Point Control Structure in Cameron Parish. Work is scheduled to be completed in February 2011.

The Corps’ ARRA project list represents a set of productive investments that contribute to economic development and aquatic ecosystem restoration. These projects will achieve the purposes of the Recovery Act to commence expenditures quickly by investing in infrastructure that will provide long-term economic and environmental benefits to the nation. Moreover, the projects are fully consistent with the president’s direction to ensure that ARRA funds are spent responsibly and transparently.
