New Orleans District awards 3 more ARRA contracts

NEW ORLEANS – The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is funding Corps work on the Calcasieu River and Pass, Morganza to the Gulf and Larose to Golden Meadow projects.

A $9,387,065 contract was awarded to BIS LLC, a Kenner, La. based HUBZONE contractor. ARRA funds are being used to repair foreshore dikes along the Calcasieu River. Work began September 18, 2009 and is scheduled to be completed in early November 2010.

A $1,451,449 contract was also awarded for the Larose to Golden Meadow Project to Digital Engineering and Imaging of Kenner, La. ARRA funds are being used to complete the structural analysis of the navigation floodgates. Work on the project began September 29, 2009 and is expected to be completed in September 2010.

A $151,487 contract was awarded to West Consultants, Inc. of San Diego, Calif. as part of the Morganza to the Gulf Project. ARRA funds are being used to update a model that will be used to determine stage frequencies for flooding in the project area. Work is scheduled to be completed in May 2010.

The Corps’ ARRA project list represents a set of productive investments that contribute to economic development and aquatic ecosystem restoration. These projects will achieve the purposes of the recovery act to commence expenditures quickly by investing in infrastructure that will provide long-term economic and environmental benefits to the nation. Moreover, the projects are fully consistent with the president’s direction to ensure that ARRA funds are spent responsibly and transparently.
