NEW ORLEANS, LA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will host a public meeting on Thursday, Dec. 3 to discuss the proposed action for the Seabrook Floodgate Structure, a sector gate and two vertical lift gates 540 feet south of the Senator Ted Hickey (Seabrook) Bridge that would tie into the Lake Pontchartrain levee system.
The proposed Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Seabrook Floodgate Structure would operate in tandem with the IHNC Lake Borgne Surge Barrier to reduce the risk of storm damage to New Orleans East, metro New Orleans, Gentilly, the Ninth Ward and St. Bernard Parish.
Individual Environmental Report (IER) 11 Tier 2 Pontchartrain, which investigates the alternative alignments and designs for Seabrook and also addresses the impacts of these alignments, construction methods, and other design details, will be out for a 30-day public comment period in December 2009.
