New Orleans, LA - The Corps is hosting a rescheduled public scoping meeting on Tuesday, Dec.8, 2009, in Davant, La. to evaluate options for improving the New Orleans to Venice Hurricane Protection Project levees in Plaquemines Parish.
The scoping meeting was originally scheduled for Nov. 9, 2009 and was cancelled because of Tropical Storm Ida.
"The Corps is continuing to collect public input on development of the Federal levee project that runs on the east bank of Plaquemines Parish from Phoenix to Bohemia, and on the west bank from St. Jude to Venice," said Julie LeBlanc, senior project manager. "Feedback offered by the public will be used to improve the current project."
This meeting will help guide the design and construction of the levees that would improve the Federal levee system on the east bank of Plaquemines Parish from Phoenix to Bohemia, and on the west bank from St. Jude to Venice. The potential improvements are being evaluated by the Corps in cooperation with the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration.
The Corps held two other scoping meetings in Sept. 2009 and one in Nov. 2009 to identify what types of project challenges and local interests should be addressed in the New Orleans to Venice project’s Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS).
