Published Dec. 9, 2009
NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Corps is hosting a public meeting on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, in Braithwaite, La., to discuss the proposed action to improve the Caernarvon Floodwall in St. Bernard Parish. Plans for the Caernarvon Floodwall are discussed in Individual Environmental Report 9, an environmental document that is currently available for public review and comment on www.nolaenvironmental.gov. The comment period runs through Dec. 24, 2009.

“The proposed project alignment and many features were developed in conjunction with local community members and businesses,” said Christophor Gilmore, senior project manager. “The proposed action is a new floodwall alignment to the west of the Caernarvon Canal, including a tie-in to the Mississippi River Levee system and construction of a 56-foot wide sector gate across the Canal.”

The meeting begins with an open house at 6 p.m. and is followed by a presentation and discussion. This meeting will provide an additional venue for the Corps to collect comments and answer questions about the proposed action as it is described in the environmental document.
