Phase II of lakefront levee work in Orleans Metro
NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently awarded a $5.1 million contract to Quality Enterprises USA, Inc., a Virginia-based firm, for construction services on the lakefront between London Avenue and the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (Industrial Canal) in Orleans Metro.
The fifteen-month contract calls for constructing a new floodwall at the Ted Hickey (Seabrook) Bridge and a new ramp over the levee to reestablish direct access between the University of New Orleans and Lakeshore Drive. When complete, the project would reduce the impacts from a storm surge event that has a one percent chance of occurring in any given year.

The Corps also awarded a $33.3 million contract to construct a new sector gate at Bayou Dupre in St. Bernard Parish. The contract, awarded to New Jersey-based firm Tetra Tech EC Inc., will take fourteen months to complete from the date of notice to proceed.
“We are committed to providing the 100-year level of risk reduction for the greater New Orleans area in 2011,” said Col. Robert Sinkler, commander of the Hurricane Protection Office. “Each contract that is awarded brings us closer to achieving that goal.”
