Corps to host coastal restoration town hall meetings

Published Feb. 9, 2010

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District is hosting a series of town hall meetings to provide an overview of coastal restoration projects and programs that are planned or underway in Louisiana.

“There are a number of projects in the works which will help to restore, preserve and protect Louisiana’s coast,” said Colonel Alvin Lee, commander of the New Orleans District. “While more work is necessary, these meetings will provide an overview of coastal restoration projects that are already planned and provide an opportunity for citizens to let me know what aspects of coastal restoration they find most beneficial.”

Each meeting is scheduled to begin with an open house from 6 to 6:30 p.m. A formal presentation by Col. Lee begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a discussion period. The town hall meetings are an opportunity for citizens to learn about coastal restoration projects already in the works and ask questions about their status.

The meeting discussion will include content on:
• Beneficial Use of Dredged Material (BUDMAT)
• Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act programs (CWPPRA)
• Louisiana Coastal Area (LCA)
• Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration (LACPR)
• MRGO Ecosystem Restoration
