Contract awarded for Highway 46 floodgates

Published March 23, 2010
New Orleans – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently awarded a $5.3 million contract to construct new floodgates at Highway 46 in St. Bernard Parish. The contract was awarded to New Orleans-based Integrated Pro Services, LLC, a service disabled veteran-owned small business. Public safety is the Corps’ top priority. When complete, the project would reduce impacts from a storm surge event that has a one percent chance of occurring in any given year.
“We are making significant progress in our efforts to complete the 100-year level of risk reduction for the greater New Orleans area in 2011,” said Col. Robert Sinkler, commander of the Hurricane Protection Office. “We have just one more contract to award for 100-year level work in St. Bernard Parish.”
Major construction is expected to begin this spring and will take approximately eight months to complete from the date of notice to proceed.
