Contracts awarded for storm proofing in Jefferson Parish

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently awarded two contracts to storm proof three pump stations in Jefferson Parish so that they can remain operable during and immediately following tropical storm events.

The Corps awarded a $2.4 million contract to Reeves Electrical Services, L.L.C, a Louisiana-based minority-owned small business, to storm proof the Westminster Lincolnshire and Parish Line pump stations. The Westminster Lincolnshire Pump Station is on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish near Westwego and the Parish Line Pump Station is located on the East Bank of Jefferson Parish near the St. Charles Parish line.

The Corps also awarded a $1.9 million contract to Healtheon, Inc., a New Orleans-based minority-owned small business, to modify the Canal Street Pump Station, which is located in Jefferson Parish just west of the 17th Street Canal.

Work consists of upgrading and reinforcing buildings, elevating electrical equipment, as well as establishing backup power and fuel sources. The duration for both contracts is approximately 12 months from the date of notice to proceed, which was recently issued for the Canal Street Pump Station project and will be issued for the two remaining pump stations within the next week.

“This is a great step forward in our continuing efforts to reduce risk in Jefferson Parish,” said John Ashley, branch chief for existing pump stations. “We will work closely with our non-Federal partners to complete this project.”
