Corps receives three & issues one Deepwater Horizon incident emergency permit request

NEW ORLEANS – In response to the Deepwater Horizon incident, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, received one emergency permit request Tuesday, which was issued Wednesday afternoon, and received two on Wednesday.

All three permit applications were requested by BP America Production Co.

The first was requested Tuesday to install pilings and boom in Caminada Bay in Lafourche and Jefferson parishes. The permit was issued Wednesday, July 21.

The following two emergency permit requests were submitted Wednesday and are pending:

· Install marsh barriers in Blind and Customhouse Bays in Plaquemines Parish

· Install Hesco baskets from Point Cheniere Ronquille to Grand Bayou Pass in Plaquemines Parish

Of the 51 emergency permit requests the Corps has received thus far, 41 were issued, two were denied, five were withdrawn by the applicant, and three are pending.

To obtain an NOD-20 emergency work permit, applicants must provide the following information by telephone,

e-mail, or fax:

1. Description of the proposed work and brief statement of the emergency situation

2. Location of the proposed work (a map or latitude and longitude)

3. Name, address, telephone, and e-mail contact information for the applicant

Within 30 days of approval, the permittee must provide a restoration plan to restore the impacted site. Should it be in public interest to maintain the authorized work, the permittee must also apply for a Department of the Army permit within 30 days of approval.
