Contract awarded for remediation of floodwalls along Orleans Avenue Canal

Published Feb. 24, 2011
NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Hurricane Protection Office recently awarded a contract for remediating floodwalls along the east side of the Orleans Avenue Canal between Robert E. Lee Boulevard and Harrison Avenue and on the west side of the canal near Drainage Pump Station 7. The work will address potential stability and seepage issues to meet the more stringent post-Hurricane Katrina design requirements.

The Corps awarded the $5 million contract to New Orleans-based Integrated Pro Services, LLC, a service-disabled veteran-owned small business. The approximately four-month contract calls for strengthening the existing levees on the east side of the canal with the construction of stability berms and the use of deep soil mixing, a process in which cement and soil are combined to create columns. Additional work includes driving sheet piles on the west side of the canal to mitigate subsurface seepage.

Construction will begin next week and finish in June 2011. All floodwall remediation will be conducted within the existing right of way. This is the fourth and final outfall canal remediation contract to be awarded.
