Bonnet Carre Spillway to host a tribute to veterans

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Spillway Radio Control Club will be honoring veterans with a model airplane show at the Bonnet Carre Spillway on March 19, 2011.

Veterans from the VA Veteran’s Home in Reserve, Louisiana will be escorted to the event, however, all veterans and their family and friends are encouraged to attend.

The event, which will occur from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will include a model airplane show featuring aircrafts from a variety of eras. New Orleans District Commander Col. Ed Fleming and St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre Jr. will provide opening remarks.

United States Army Recruiter’s will also be on hand providing both educational and promotional materials, as well as the opportunity for children to get an up-close look at an Army Hummer 3 (H3) – both inside and out!

Lunch will be provided by Jacob’s Sausage Company of LaPlace, Louisiana for the first 200 veterans. Family and friends are encouraged to bring their own lunch, however they are welcome to eat the provided lunch if there is extra.

The tribute will take place at the Bonnet Carre Spillway’s Bleakley Field. If coming from New Orleans, take I-10 West and merge onto I-310. Take Exit 2 (the Norco exit) to US-61. Turn left at the third light, Apple Street. Take Apple Street until it ends at River Road and make a right. Follow this road approximately three miles, past the Spillway office. Bleakley Field will be across from the Spillway structures.
