Corps hosts public meeting to discuss possible temporary closure of a portion of the Hero Canal

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Corps project managers will provide an overview of the proposed temporary closure of the eastern-most portion of the Hero Canal at a public meeting on March 24, 2011 at St. Paul’s Benevolent Association Hall in Oakville.

Project managers will discuss:

• Need to possibly close the eastern-most portion of the canal

• Impacts of possible closure

• Timeline of when closure could begin

An environmental document, “Hero Canal Levee and Eastern Tie-In Plaquemines Parish, Supplemental IER #13a, Temporary Closure of Hero Canal” describes the proposed action and is available for public review and download on www.nolaenvironmental.gov.

When: Thursday, March 24, 2011

Informational open house is 6 to 6:30 p.m.

Presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a discussion.
