Indian Bayou recreational area closed

Published May 19, 2011

PORT BARRE, LA – Effective immediately, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is prohibiting all recreational activity in the Indian Bayou Area due to current high water conditions.

In the interest of public safety, public access to all-terrain vehicles (ATV) and hiking trails on the property is restricted until further notice.

Mandatory evacuations, issued by local governments, have already taken place both north and south of the area, prompting the closure. Furthermore, levee boards have already prohibited access to levees in the area.

The closure is expected to last at least several weeks. Once flood waters recede and local officials lift evacuation orders, the area will re-open for recreational activity.
