Corps public meeting to discuss construction status of Bayou Segnette Floodgate Complex

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, is hosting a public meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 11 to discuss the construction status of the Bayou Segnette Floodgate Complex which reduces risk of storm surge inundation to residents in Westwego, Harvey, Gretna and other areas of the westbank.

"Construction of the Bayou Segnette Floodgate Complex is approximately 75 percent complete," said Sami Mosrie, senior project manager. "Residents living near the construction site will soon observe our construction contractor demolishing a portion of the old Company Canal Floodwall. At this meeting we will discuss what impacts community members can anticipate during ongoing construction."

The Bayou Segnette Floodgate Complex is an approximately $110 million project and includes construction of a 56-foot sector gate, a 400 cubic foot per second pump station, higher floodwalls / levees and fronting protection improvements to existing pump stations.
