Greater New Orleans Hurricane & Storm Damage Risk Reduction

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District Commander, Col. Ed Fleming, today signed the Notice of Availability for the “Final Comprehensive Environmental Document (CED) Greater New Orleans Area Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS) Phase I.”  The CED will be supplemented and finalized at a later date once construction on the HSDRRS is complete.

This CED Phase I describes the five-parish HSDRRS, includes a cumulative impact analysis of the HSDRRS construction completed by July 2011, incorporates information from Individual Environmental Reports (IERs) and supplemental IERs completed by November 15, 2010, and includes comments and responses made on the draft CED.

Once sufficient information is available concerning the cumulative impacts of the HSDRRS and the IERs not addressed in the CED Phase I, a future final phase of the CED will be published for public comment, after which, in accordance with the Emergency Alternative Arrangements, the District Commander will issue a CED Decision Record.

The 30-day public review period for this Final CED Phase I begins on May 22 and closes on June 28, 2013.  The Final CED Phase I is available online at www.nolaenvironmental.gov; hard copies may be requested by sending e-mail to mvnenvironmental@usace.army.mil.
