USACE Project Manager recognized for accomplishments in coastal restoration

Published June 28, 2012

NEW ORLEANS – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District Project Manager Daimia Jackson was recently recognized in U.S. Black Engineer Magazine for her work on the Louisiana Coastal Area (LCA) program in Louisiana. The magazine features a profile that highlights her accomplishments in the LCA program, specifically the work that she did to facilitate the signing of the LCA 6 Chief of Engineers report.

According to Ms. Jackson, her proudest career accomplishment was when "Corps of Engineers Commanding General, Robert L. Van Antwerp, signed the Chief of Engineers report, approving work completed in the six feasibility studies. A Chief of Engineers report represents the Corps of Engineers’ formal endorsement of a project’s recommendations for future implementation to the Administration and Congress."

The feasibility studies and environmental assessments for the LCA 6 projects were conducted at an accelerated pace in partnership with the State of Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority.  By meeting the Dec. 31, 2010 deadline for the Chief of Engineers report, as outlined in the Water Resources Development Act of 2007 – Section 7006(e)(3)(A), the team was able to maintain contingent authorization for construction of these projects, which sets the stage for approximately $1.4 billion in construction of coastal restoration features.
