NEW ORLEANS – As a result of water levels subsiding in the Harvey Canal, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District reopened the canal gates at approximately 5 a.m. today.
The gates at the Harvey Canal are opened when water levels in the canal subside below 2 feet and are predicted to remain below that level. The gates take about 10 minutes to open.
The gates at the Harvey Canal were closed at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2012.
The Company Canal and London Avenue Canal gates remain closed at this time. The Corps will continue to monitor weather conditions and operate pumps as needed.
