The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, began repairing a levee slide on the West Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee, Aug. 13, 2025, in the Indian Bayou Area north of the Butte and La Rose, La., exit off I-10 Basin Bridge. As such, starting Aug. 13, only local traffic will be allowed to use the top levee road while all other traffic is advised to find an alternate route for traveling in this area.

Levee repairs are expected to be completed by Fall 2025.

Repairs times are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., to include holidays and weekends. Public safety is our top priority, and we will work closely with our non-Federal Sponsors, West Atchafalaya Levee District and Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority throughout the repair process.

The West Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee, built by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), is part of the Atchafalaya Basin Floodway system in Louisiana. This 74-mile earthen levee provides flood risk-reduction for a wide area on the western side of the basin by diverting water from the Atchafalaya River.
