Corps releases for review the Draft Programmatic Environmental Assessment for Reach A, Morganza to the Gulf Project

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District released today the

Draft Programmatic Environmental Assessment (DPEA #598) for the Reach A, Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction Project, Morganza to the Gulf of Mexico (MTG), Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana for public review and comment.


The proposed plan evaluates alternatives to construct a hurricane and storm damage risk reduction project including both programmatic and constructible features within Reach A of the MTG project. 


The public is invited to provide input on the proposed 7.16 miles of earthen levee and 0.22-mile floodwall designed to a +17-foot and +16.5-foot elevation respectively, 11 environmental control structures, two collector canals, and two floodgates. This DPEA has sufficient details and impact analyses on 3.26 miles of earthen levee south of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway between Stations 3512+00.00 and 3684+00.00 to go to construction upon signing of the Finding of No Significant Impacts, if deemed appropriate. The 30-day public comment period begins on March 1, 2024, and concludes on March 31, 2024.


The draft document is prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and the Council of Environmental Quality Regulations.
