Borrow Area Draft Environmental Assessment released for public review

NEW ORLEANS – Draft Environmental Assessment #586, “New Orleans to Venice Hurricane Protection Project, Federal Hurricane Protection Levee, Utilization of the Woodland North Borrow Area for Use from Woodpark to Pointe Celeste Pump Station” is available for a 30-day public review and comment period beginning Oct. 23 through Nov. 22.  

All comments received by the end of the 30-day review period will be considered in finalizing EA #586.  Comments received and New Orleans District responses will be included in an appendix to the EA.

The draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and the Council of Environmental Quality’s Regulations for Implementing NEPA and the Clean Water Act, Section 404 (Section 404(b)(1)), in accordance with provisions of Title 33 CFR Parts 336.1(b)(1) and 337.1.  

The New Orleans District is in coordination with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Office of Environmental Services for a Water Quality Certification in accordance with statutory authority contained in the LAC 33:IX.1507.A-E and provisions of Section 401 of the Clean Water Act.  

Draft EA #586 provides an analysis of the potential impacts of implementing the proposed action to utilize the Woodland North Borrow Area B2 as an alternative borrow source for the construction of levee features from Woodpark to the Pointe Celeste pump station in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana (Contract No. NOV-NF-W-06a.1).
