Work related to the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA)

Since April 1, 2020, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District has periodically closed the left lane of General De Gaulle Drive westbound to traffic between Behrman Place and MacArthur Boulevard for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control project.

Starting Monday, April 20, the construction crew will begin pouring concrete base slabs. As a result, concrete trucks will make frequent deliveries, causing the left lane to be closed more often between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The lane will only be closed during deliveries to reduce the impact to the community as much as possible. These temporary closures are related to improving drainage in the area and are expected to be necessary for approximately 9 more months.

In addition, the construction crew will temporarily close the U-turn and turning lane onto MacArthur Boulevard while moving equipment across the street to the next section of channel. This move will be done safely and as quickly as possible to reduce impact to the community.

Throughout construction, the Army Corps will continue to coordinate closures with its partners at the City of New Orleans and the Sewerage & Water Board.
