Contract awarded for SELA work on the West Bank

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for channel improvements in Algiers, Louisiana. The construction contract is a part of the Southeast Louisiana Drainage Project (SELA), Orleans Parish – Algiers Subbasin Plan.

The $14.2M construction contract was awarded to B&K Construction Co. Inc. and represents the first of seven contracts to be awarded in the SELA Algiers Subbasin Plan. Additional contracts will be designed and awarded as funds are appropriated. (The current total project cost to construct the Algiers Subbasin Plan is $506M)

The contract calls for channel improvements along General De Gaulle Avenue and has an estimated completion date of 2025. The 25 foot earthen channel will be replaced with 40 feet wide pile founded concrete lined u-flume channel, and deepened by five feet.

The Corps will continue to work closely with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, the Department of Public Works for the City of New Orleans, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and others.
