Temporary road closure to occur on Freret Street at Jefferson Avenue

Work related to the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA)

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will temporarily close a portion of Freret Street for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Flood Control Project (SELA).

Weather dependent, on Monday, April 3, 2017, Freret Street will be closed on the west (uptown) side of Jefferson Avenue for approximately three months. During this closure, northbound (lake bound) traffic will be maintained on Jefferson Avenue. Traffic traveling west (uptown) on Freret Street will be able to access Jefferson Avenue. Traffic traveling east (downtown) on Freret Street will be detoured prior to reaching Jefferson Avenue. Detour signage will be in place.

This closure is for drain and water line work related to box culvert construction. There will be one more extended closure on Freret Street at Jefferson Avenue so that the same work can occur on the east (downtown) side of Jefferson Avenue.

Throughout construction, the Army Corps will continue to coordinate closures with its partners at the City of New Orleans and the Sewerage & Water Board.
