Beginning in 2016, the PCCP JV Construction Meeting will be held on a quarterly basis.

                

Current Activities

HOT INFO:

  • Minimal Activities scheduled over the Memorial Day weekend.
  • Levee tie-in at 17th Street site has started and will continue over the coming weeks.
  • Orleans East tie-in: tree removal and trimming tentatively scheduled. That work will be along Marconi Drive.
  • London West tie-in work for the laydown yard is ongoing this week along Pratt Drive. The crane is assembled and will be driving sheet piles for the gap closure this week. Elevated noise levels expected.

The following activities are scheduled for May 23 through May 29, 2016.

17th Street Canal / 30-Day Look Ahead / 90-Day Look Ahead          

Night shift activities to include: Minimal night shift activities scheduled for this week.

Day shift activities to include:    

  • Installation of sheet pile continues on the pump station permanent bulkhead. Installation of flat sheets along the pump station. Elevated noise levels expected.
  • Marina Recirculation line is on the schedule. 
  • Levee tie in work continues. Driving the last few sheets and then backfill of the levee is scheduled.
  • Structural Steel installation continues this week at the auxiliary building.
  • Installation of bulkheads and dewatering in the bypass structure to install sluice gates.
  • Remove sheets in the additional bypass structure. Removal of sheets may result in some elevated noise levels. Forming up of the trench and pouring the trench on the South side. 
  • Concrete placement of short walls and back walls at the pump station. Trucks entering from West Roadway.
  • Installation of the bulkhead guides at the pump station continues with concrete pours for the guides.
  • Installation of the vortex breaker bars at the pump station.
  • Layout and anchor bolts for bar screen installation.
  • Installation of the gear stand for the last pump at the pump station.
  • Installation of cable trays at the pump station.
  • Termination of wires at the generator building.
  • Delivery of materials. Trucks entering and exiting from West Roadway.        

Orleans Avenue Canal / 30-Day Look Ahead / 90-Day Look Ahead      

Night shift operations to include: Minimal night shift activities scheduled for this week.

Day shift activities:

  • Removal of sheet pile around the pump station continues.  Elevated noise levels expected.
  • Driving pile in the bypass structure. Elevated noise is expected.
  • The piling for the discharge cofferdam begins this week. Elevated noise levels during pile installation expected.
  • Formwork, rebar installation for equipment pads in the pump station. Pour equipment pads. Trucks entering from Lakeshore Drive.       
  • Installation of standing seam roofing on the pump station continues.
  • Installation of electrical equipment in the pump station for the climber screens.
  • Installation of climber screen No.1, No. 2, and start of No. 3 at the pump station.
  • Final alignment of the gear motors for the pumps in the pump station.
  • Installation of the raw water cooler system at the pump station.
  • Misc. Metals (handrail and stairs) at the pump station should finish this week.
  • Final ductwork connections in the generator building.
  • Instrumentation and wire terminations at the generator building will continue this week.
  • Electrical installation in the electrical systems at the auxiliary building.
  • Installation of lighting receptacles in the auxiliary building.
  • Installation of the 480 V cable in the auxiliary building.
  • Installation of the roof at the auxiliary building continues.
  • Installation of the air conditioning system at the auxiliary building continues as well.
  • In the auxiliary building continue on the ceiling finishes.
  • Installation of cabinets and plumbing fixtures in the auxiliary building.
  • Continue working on the West twall tie-ins this week. Backfill the soil around the twalls.    
  • Tree trimming and removal for the East twall tie in will be in the next couple of weeks.
  • Delivery of materials to site. Trucks entering and exiting from Lakeshore Dr.      

London Avenue Canal / 30-Day Look Ahead / 90-Day Look Ahead   

Night shift activities to include:  Minimal night shift activities scheduled for this week.

Day shift activities:        

  • Removal of sheet pile around the pump station. Elevated noise levels expected.
  • Form equipment pads for louver sills at pump station.
  • Placement of concrete for equipment pads in the pump station. Concrete trucks entering and exiting from Leon C. Simon and Lakeshore Dr.
  • Form work and mechanical/electrical penetrations for the mezzanine deck in the pump station. Place the concrete for the floor deck. Trucks entering from Leon C. Simon and Lakeshore Drive.
  • Installation of structural steel at the pump station continues.
  • Installation of precast panels at the pump station.
  • Final alignment of discharge piping continues.
  • Installation of cable trays in the pump station.
  • Wire terminations at the generator building. Along with installation of exhaust fans.
  • Installation of structural steel at the auxiliary building continues.
  • Installation of pile for the additional bypass gates. Elevated noise levels expected. Excavation of the additional bypass gates begins this week.
  • Bypass structure for water up and removal of cofferdam. Elevated noise levels anticipated. Excavation of North side of bypass structure for water up.
  • Removal of trestle deck to begin installation of the combi wall.
  • West twall tie-in: delivery of sheets for gap closure. Driving sheets for gap closure. Elevated noise levels expected.
  • Delivery of materials to the site. Trucks entering and exiting from Leon C. Simon and Lakeshore Drive.

Construction Impacts

  • Elevated noise levels from pile driving, generators, etc.
  • Pile Driving Activities: between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM
  • Increased truck traffic (trucks will utilize approved haul routes)
  • Temporary road closures
  • Extended work hours (24 hours per day)
  • November 2013 – Project Completion (2017)

Efforts to Minimize Impacts

  • Noise and vibration monitoring plan.
  • “Five Cubits” GPS tracking system to monitor trucks / ensure that they are following approved haul routes.
  • Some materials will be delivered by barge.
  • Construction signage is being placed around the sites. 
  • Any temporary road closures will be communicated to the public ahead of schedule.
  • The Corps will continue to inform / educate the community about the project in advance of major construction.
