Lane shift to occur on Magazine Street at Jefferson Avenue

Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA)

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, and its contractor will temporarily shift travel lanes on Magazine St. at Jefferson Ave. for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Drainage Project (SELA). Throughout construction, public safety is the Corps’ top priority.

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, July 6, 2015, a traffic shift will be implemented on Magazine St. at Jefferson Ave. Phased traffic signals will be installed on Magazine St. that will alternate east bound (downtown bound) and west bound (uptown bound) traffic through the intersection.

Traffic on Magazine St. will initially be shifted towards the north side (lakeside) of Magazine St. while work is performed on the south side (riverside) of the intersection. Traffic lanes will then be shifted to the south side (riverside) of Magazine St. will work is performed on the north side (lakeside) of the intersection. Portions of existing Magazine St. parking lanes on either side of Jefferson Ave. will be utilized for travel lanes during the shift.

Work is for installation of jet grout columns for the underground-drainage box culvert. The lane shift will be in place for approximately 21 days, weather permitting.

Throughout construction, The Corps will continue to work closely with its partners at the City of New Orleans.
