Road Closure: Carney Road at LA Hwy 964 for Comite River Diversion Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District will temporarily close the eastern portion of Carney Road at LA Hwy 964 in Zachary, LA, as part of ongoing construction of the Comite River Diversion Channel Bayou Baton Rouge Rock Chute. The road closure will begin on November 7, 2025.

Contracts awarded for Channel Segment 2b and Comite River Diversion Structure as part of the Comite River Diversion project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded contracts for constructing two segments of the Comite River Diversion project. The Channel Segment 2b contract will construct approximately 2,427 feet of the diversion while the Comite River Diversion Structure contract will construct approximately 2,500 feet.

Contract awarded for Channel Segment 3 as part of the Comite River Diversion project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded one of the last remaining contracts for the Comite River Diversion project. The Channel Segment 3 contract will construct approximately one mile of the diversion channel. The contract was awarded to Red Bison Services, LLC, of Kenner, LA on September 9, 2025, in the amount of $20,102,000.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers holds partner signing ceremony for the Comite River Diversion project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, brought stakeholders together to sign a partnership agreement for the Comite River Diversion Project, Brooks Lake Guide Levee Feature, on Friday, April 11 at the LA State Police Joint Training Facility in Baton Rouge, LA. At the ceremony, all parties reconfirmed their commitment in delivering the project for the residents and businesses located in East Baton Rouge, Livingston, and Ascension Parishes.

Comite River Diversion flood management project alignment requires permanent closure of Barnett Road segment in East Baton Rouge Parish

Beginning April 15, 2024, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District will permanently close the section of Barnett Road between U.S. Hwy 61 and Carney Road near Zachary, La. to begin construction of the Comite River Diversion Channel Segment #1 in that area.
